Mill Race Fest audience treated to eclectic performances
The Mill Race Festival of Traditional Folk Music is above all else a community event.
With a flair for the dramatic, George Sampson (aka George Sapounidis), by day a mathematical statistician and by night a fiery vocalist and bouzouki player, led his trio Ouzo Power in a set of subversive Greek blues music known as Rebetika. His bouzouki-blazing rendition of Bob Dylan’s All Along the Watchtower was electrifying.

Sing Out Magazine CD Review
OUZO POWER, Greatest Hits Volume 1 (George Sapounidis 007). Never mind the title, this appears to be the debut release by a Canadian band who rocks up Greek rembetika (well, mostly tunes by leader Sapounidis). It’s sprightly neo-Greek stuff. “Puo Sou Manga” sounds like it’s migrated from a Steeleye Span album, and “Bouzouki From Anatolia” evokes bouzouki dub … an interesting experiment that works surprisingly well. — CN
